Wednesday, January 13, 2010 – The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) today signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Bangladesh Investment Climate Fund (BICF), managed by the International Finance Corporation, in partnership with the U.K. Department for International Development and the European Union. Under the agreement, BICF will provide technical assistance to assist BASIS in strengthening its ability to research and advocate for the implementation of business reforms that can positively impact the IT industry in Bangladesh.
Speaking at the occasion, James Crittle, Head of BICF, said, “We are proud to support BASIS in its initiative to identify constraints to the IT sector in Bangladesh, and design and advocate appropriate solutions to remove these constraints. We believe that the resultant growth of the IT sector in Bangladesh will greatly assist the nation achieve its vision of a Digital Bangladesh”.
Habibullah N. Karim, President, BASIS, said, “We are excited at the opportunity to undertake this strategic partnership with BICF, who bring significant experience in improving the investment climate, both in Bangladesh and abroad. We hope that this initiative will enable BASIS to play a strong leadership role, both within the IT sector and within the private sector, in identifying and designing appropriate business reforms for Bangladesh. We are confident that this will create jobs and business opportunities for Bangladesh’s highly skilled young IT graduates.”
